Planning Sheila

As we have changed the song we obviously had to plan our new video. We sat down with the lyrics like before and annotated them with our ideas about what we were going to do for each line. This meant we'd have a piece of film for each lyric so we wouldn't get to editing and realise we didn't have enough footage. We also decided on what our actors will look like and who our actors will be, Myself and Tana will feature in the video.

We decided to follow the story for each character in the song, "Sheila", "Jack" & "Georgina". For "Sheila" & "Georgina" they would both look rock chicky and rough, like its 5pm and they're still in the and clothes and make up from being out the night before, you can see this in the images below (note they are all celebrities!). "Jack" would be your typical chavvy "gangster" drug dealer look - hoodie, jogging bottoms etc.

BIG PROBLEM!

HUGE problem!!!...
Our first day of filming: We go out and realise that the song we chose just wasn't going to work! We planned well, so that wasn't the problem, but our ideas were too "big" for the time, budget and equipment we had, and so we were hit with directors block!
Luckily whilst we sat on location in a state of panic about what we were going to do "Sheila" by Jamie. T came on the radio. We all began to sing along and thought about the video we could make for the song. Perhaps it was fate, perhaps not, either way we decided this was the right song for us and got to planning our new video right away!

Planning

Now we have decided on the song we are going to use we have began planning our video.
As you already know we have decided upon "Here in your Arms" by "Hello Goodbye" because we thought it had a good story to the song and would be easy to lip sync.
We started to plan by writing the lyrics out, so we could plan the story around the lyrics. We think this video needs to be light hearted and cheesy. The story for the video will be about a geeky boy who dreams about being with he girl he could never get.

Developing Ideas

So far me and my group have discussed options for our music video. We have made a thought shower to show what we have discussed. This includes subjects such as genres, artists related to those genres and songs. Through our planning we know we want to use a song that really tells a story, so we can create that story through film.

Research

Me and my group have been watching alot of music videos, both professional and amateur to help to give us an idea on what road we want to go down with our music video. We thought it would be a good idea to watch some amateur videos from other sixth form students so we could get a realistic idea on what we'd be able to create.
Listed below are some professional videos we watched:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DLo54YDNek - "If You Got the Money" - Jamie. T

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N64QMKEbJQg - "Fluorescent Adolescent" - Arctic Monkeys

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wA15L6cHPvQ - When the Sun Goes Down - Arctic Monkeys

The three above videos are of an indie/alternative genre. This genre of music often has music videos which are very socially realistic and gritty approach to them. There is usually an easy to follow story to them. Also the videos have a really simple look to them, they have minimal props and simple real locations.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wws7mnMewPw - "Psychosocial Heavy" - Slipknot

This genre of music is heavy metal. The videos for this genre tends to be alot of the bad performing the song in various locations, also the feel of the video is generally quite dark .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11SvDtPBhA - "Party in the USA" - Miley Cyrus

This video is Pop/R'n'B. These videos are all quite glamorous and look expensive, often shots are done in studios and sound stages. Alot of these videos are set in clubs and parties. They all look very glossy and feature alot of extras so alot of people would be needed to create a video of this genre.

We will take all of the above into consideration when deciding on our song to create a music video for, thinking about what will be realistically possible for us to create with equipment and such that we have.
